Kids Braces - Anyone can have their teeth alignment corrected—kids, teens and even adults! Treatment duration varies, depending on your age, tooth condition and orthodontic appliance. Find out more about the different options available to you and your family. Everyone deserves beautiful straight teeth.
Adult Braces - Straight teeth reduce the amount of plaque that gathers in crevices, and less plaque can lower your chances for gum disease, which has been linked to heart disease and diabetes. Straighter teeth also allow for better brushing, keeping your teeth healthier and in place for longer!
Invisalign - The cost of Invisalign® treatment is similar to braces, but that’s where the similarity ends. Invisalign clear aligners are removable and virtually invisible, so you can keep living your life and caring for your teeth throughout treatment the same way you always have.
Metal Braces - Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces are more comfortable today than ever before. Metal braces straighten your teeth using arch wires arch wires and metal brackets. You have the option of adding coloured elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colourful smile.

Orthodontic treatments can correct various problems, including:
Restoring full tooth function. When your teeth are properly aligned, you can chew more effectively.

Interceptive orthodontic treatments are sometimes recommended to young children who still have primary teeth. Early interventions can correct problems that, if left untreated, could damage teeth and surrounding tissues or negatively impact jaw development.
Interceptive treatments are considered phase 1 treatments and are often followed by a subsequent intervention during adolescence. By creating the right conditions for proper mouth and bone growth, interceptive treatments can make it easier to perform future corrections.
Patients need to be on board in order for an orthodontic treatment to be successful. Brushing your teeth can prevent gingivitis, cavities and stains. You also need to care for your orthodontic appliance by cleaning it regularly and avoiding foods that could damage it.
Dental appliances can trap small particles of the food you eat. You might not see them, but they are there. These particles feed the cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth. It’s important to remember that orthodontic appliances don’t cause cavities, but insufficient care of your device can lead to dental decay.
That’s why you should brush your teeth carefully after every meal or snack. Patients should also diligently follow all the oral hygiene instructions prescribed to them.
Maintain a balanced diet and stay away from hard or sticky foods. Avoid chewy candy, granola bars or chewing gum. Break bad habits such as:
Even though maintaining your oral health routine can seem burdensome at times, remember that it’s important for your health. Low on motivation? Set some challenges for yourself!

The most commonly used type of orthodontic appliances are permanent ones. These are traditional braces with brackets and wires.
Today, braces are smaller than in the past and are therefore more discreet. Self-ligating braces are more comfortable and easy to clean.
Palatal expanders can either be permanent or removable. They are used to expand the upper jaw if your palate is too narrow. Palatal expansion carried out during phase 1 orthodontic treatments creates space for permanent teeth to come in. It can reduce crowding by giving teeth more room.
Spacers don’t move teeth. They simply maintain the space that is already available. Spacers are often used to prevent teeth from shifting in children who lose a primary tooth prematurely.
Hawley retainers are temporary appliances used to shift a specific group of teeth or to maintain tooth position after braces are removed.
Face masks are often recommended when the upper jaw is not long enough from front to back. They are often combined with palatal expanders and worn 12 to 24 hours per day to draw the upper jaw forward and downward.

X-rays are an essential diagnostic tool in dentistry. By providing a clear view of the bone, teeth and jaw, they allow us to detect lesions that aren’t otherwise visible.
Dental x-rays are very safe and useful for diagnosing the following:
Digital x-rays are often taken as part of a dental check-up. The images help us see between teeth, inside teeth and the supporting bone. We usually take them once per year, though the frequency can vary, depending on your dental health.
An x-ray machine looks like a robot that takes photos of your mouth. There are several types of x-rays, but all are taken directly at the clinic.
One of the major advantages of digital x-ray images is that they allow our pediatric orthodontists in St. Johns to monitor the angle at which children’s teeth are coming in.
